As an adult, you have many responsibilities and factors that can raise your stress levels. Braces shouldn’t be one of them. Orthodontists are now recommending more discreet options for adult braces for patients so that they disrupt your life as little as possible. Here’s what you need to know about two recommended treatment options for adults who want to get braces: Invisalign and ceramic braces for adults.

Invisalign Treatments for Adults

Invisalign treatment has become one of the go-to treatment options for adult patients. With Invisalign, patients are able to straighten their teeth with clear, plastic aligners that are more discreet than metal braces. Another benefit of Invisalign is that the aligners are removable. Treatment requires patients to wear their aligners for about 22 hours each day, removing them only when they eat or drink.

Types of Invisalign Treatments for Adults

In addition to traditional Invisalign, which requires about 20-30 aligners during the course of treatment, there are also versions of Invisalign tailored towards patients who need less extensive treatment.

Invisalign Lite is geared toward adults who have minor orthodontic issues, like a crooked front tooth. Designed to fix minor issues with just the six front teeth, treatment with Invisalign Lite can provide results in as little as six months.

Another option for patients who don’t need extensive treatment is Invisalign Express. This treatment is ideal for those with minor spacing or crowding issues and consists of approximately ten aligners. Invisalign Express can fix orthodontic issues in as little as three months. This short duration treatment is great for patients who are about to undergo restorative treatment, such as getting veneers.

Ceramic Braces for Adults

Ceramic braces consist of clear brackets that blend into the teeth and metal wires. Ceramic braces are ideal for patients who don’t want to worry about wearing aligners for the recommended time each day. Ceramic braces are less noticeable than traditional metal braces, yet they work in the exact same way. Although ceramic braces are a discreet option for many adult patients, the brackets can stain if patients aren’t taking proper care of their teeth. It is imperative that adults with braces brush and floss at least twice per day and after meals.
