Getting braces is a big deal. Not only will your daily routine change, you’ll add some new responsibilities, and, of course, a stunning smile once all is said and done. Focusing on your treatment should be at the forefront of your mind, but many patients can’t get past their appearance. Sure, your appearance will change slightly while you have braces, but that shouldn’t be worrisome. Our appearance changes all the time, and stressing about it won’t help. Here are three reasons why you shouldn’t worry about appearance in braces.

You’re Getting a Spectacular Smile

One of your main concerns during your journey with braces should be maximizing your treatment. After all, the whole reason why you decided to get braces was to be able to enjoy a beautiful smile for the rest of your life while alleviating some of the issues you may have been experiencing with your teeth. Keeping the end goal in mind is imperative to the success of your treatment. This means listening to your orthodontist’s instructions, taking care of your teeth, and maintaining your braces properly.

Knowing that braces are only temporary and that a spectacular smile is on the other side of treatment is important to keep in mind. In leaving this front and center in your mind, you can stay focused on your treatment and not what you look like.

It Doesn’t Matter What Others Think

So often patients think they’re going to get bullied relentlessly while they have braces, and often they worry themselves sick over this only to find reality is different. Patients start to realize their peers may not even notice or decide not to comment about their new braces. Let’s face it, we all have a lot going on in our lives, and making comments about other people’s appearances may not be a priority.

You’ll come to realize that in the end, it doesn’t really matter what others think about your braces, because they’re your braces, not theirs. They’re your responsibility and your means to achieving a perfect smile. So in the end, what others think about your appearance isn’t important.

Prepare to Get Stronger

Treatment with braces can help you become a stronger, more responsible person, which will in turn help you to realize having braces is something big and important. This is something you’re doing for yourself, which takes determination, strength, and dedication, and because of this you can expect some of the following to occur as well:

  • More confidence
  • Better oral hygiene
  • More focus on your goals
  • A positive attitude

Knowing you’re so close to getting that perfect smile you’ve always wanted and letting go of any discomfort or difficulties you had performing certain tasks can help you embrace a positive outlook on the future.

While you expected to get a beautiful smile at the end of your treatment, we bet you didn’t expect to gain confidence, focus, and so much more. When you have braces, it’s important to understand you’re doing something that will positively affect your future. Whether it’s simply a cosmetic reason or to relieve a serious jaw problem or bite issue, getting braces can impact your life in many ways. Choose to target these important reasons and take the focus off of your appearance. In the end, it’s all about your goals.

Was able to get an appointment and speak with Dr. Patel and start my daughters treatment plan. He explained what she needed and gave an estimate on how long he thought it would take. I was able to get a discount and make installments for her braces. They also were able to get her braces placed on the same day we started the contract. The woman who explained the contract was very nice and explained everything for me as well. The place was clean 🧼 and relaxing. Staff was pleasant.Bonus Mrs. Penny was still there and she’s amazing and is always welcoming and smiling ☺️

I cant not remember her name but she knows who she is… my son and I came for a consultation for my son to get braces AGAIN…. Side note… I have this thing where his name is pronounced incorrectly alot of time and often when I correct others they catch a attitude and get highly offended… I want to say thank you for correcting yourself with pronuncing his name but not only that.. that just set the tone for the appointment…. Everything she did was personable… I didnt feel pressured to hurry into an agreement for his braces, I also had my younger som my babyboy with me and you know that 3 years old can get kind of touchy and like to adventure off sometimes….. she made me feel very comfortable even when he was “being a kid” it was like he could do no wrong and you know it came from a genuine place ….. Im sooooo sorry I can not remember her name to recognize her but she knows who she is and thank you!!! The little things matter more than you think and just from that experience it made me decide even more like yeaaaaaaaa this is the place to be because just from that experience, I know they are going to take care of my oldest especially with his smile!! See you guys soon for our next appointment

We love Charleston Orthodontics. The staff is AWESOME. So accommodating and friendly. Made the braces experience for both our kids super smooth. They even knew to give them sunglasses to wear when they came in because their futures are so bright. (Sorry. I’m a dad. I don’t know how to turn the dad jokes off.)
