American Orthodontics got its start when its founder, Dan Merkel, was shocked by the cost of braces for his daughter. He acquired two orthodontic machines and set up shop in an old bandage factory in Wisconsin in 1968.

Today American Orthodontics has a state-of-the-art facility in Sheboygan, Wisconsin that employs over 400 people and produces 95% of their products. An additional 200 employees are scattered throughout the U.S. and around the world. Their focus on creating a premium product and maintaining a positive environment for their employees has earned them multiple industry and manufacturing awards and employee tenures of over 30 years. Their commitment to orthodontics is evident in their donation of over $1 million to the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation, which supports orthodontic research and education.
