If you’ve been thinking about investing in orthodontic treatment for your teen, you’ve probably considered both braces and Invisalign. You may not realize Invisalign has a product designed specifically for teens, called Invisalign Teen, and it differs from the Invisalign product designed for adults in a few important ways.

Invisalign Teen Provides Free Replacement Trays

One of the biggest concerns parents have about Invisalign is that their teen might have a hard time keeping track of their aligner trays.

Invisalign Teen offers six replacement trays throughout your teen’s treatment at no cost. Whether your teen steps on one of their aligner trays, loses it, leaves it on vacation, or accidentally throws it away with their lunch tray at school, you will be guaranteed six replacement trays.

Aligner Trays Remind Your Teen to Wear Them

The second biggest concern parents have about Invisalign is investing the money in the treatment only to find the teen never wears the aligner trays unless they are constantly reminded to do it.

Your teen should wear their Invisalign trays at least 22 hours a day. If you need some help reminding your teen how important this is, Invisalign has created a way to remind them. Each tray comes with a compliance indicator. A small blue dot on the back of the tray slowly fades as your teen wears the trays. If the blue dot is still really blue after a couple of weeks, your teen isn’t wearing their aligners enough and their treatment may be delayed.

Invisalign Teen Aligners Work For Every Stage

Even though there are guidelines for when your baby teeth should fall out and your adult teeth should grow in, everyone develops differently. With Invisalign Teen, your teen does not need to have all of their adult teeth by the time they start their orthodontic treatment. The Invisalign Teen product leaves room for incoming teeth, so you don’t have to delay treatment until all of their adult teeth grow in.

Is Invisalign Teen Right for Your Teen?

Invisalign Teen aligners will straighten your teen’s teeth without everyone knowing about it because the aligner trays are virtually invisible. Feeling self-conscious about wearing braces is one of the reasons some teens would rather have crooked teeth than wear braces.

If your teen plays a sport, Invisalign Teen may be a good choice because they won’t have metal brackets and wires in their mouth. Playing an instrument with a mouthpiece that presses the lips against the teeth can also be more comfortable with Invisalign.

If your teen is wanting to straighten their teeth before a certain special event–a family member’s wedding, school pictures or prom–Invisalign offers shorter treatment lengths for some patients.

Both Invisalign and traditional braces are good options; it’s important to choose which treatment is right for your teen and for you.
